Melbourne Graffiti II

Keeping with yesterday's theme, not only is Melbourne's graffiti world famous, but it is actually being considered for heritage protection! Australia's National Trust and Heritage Victoria are both supporting a move to protect the city's graffiti.

I personally love the graffiti. Not the tags, but the art that can be seen on walls around the cities of the world. What do you think of graffiti? Leave a comment below.

Healesville X - Yellow-billed Spoonbill

For the rest of this month, I am going to post some shots that I took at the Healesville Sanctuary. Healesville Sanctuary is one of Australia’s most recognised attractions, showcasing more than 200 species of Australian wildlife.

The Yellow-billed Spoonbill is common in south-east Australia, not unusual on the remainder of the continent, and a vagrant to New Zealand, Lord Howe Island and Norfolk Island.

This is the most widespread ibis species, breeding in scattered sites in warm regions of the world.

Healesville VIII - Nankeen Night Heron

The Nankeen Night Heron is also commonly referred to as the Rufous Night Heron. It is found throughout much of Australia except the arid inland.

Healesville VII - Nankeen Kestrel

A very common and easily seen raptor, the Nankeen Kestrel is found in Australia, New Guinea, and nearby islands, and is an irregular visitor to New Zealand.

Healesville VI - Short-billed Black Cockatoo

The Short-billed Black Cockatoo or Carnaby's Black Cockatoo is a cockatoo endemic to south-western Australia. This Cockatoo is listed as an Endangered species.

Healesville V - White-faced Heron

Today's bird is the White-Faced Heron. It is also known as the Blue Crane or White-fronted Heron and is common throughout most of Australasia.

The Royal Spoonbill (also known as the Black-billed Spoonbill) occurs in intertidal flats and shallows of fresh and saltwater wetlands in Australia, New Zealand, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, and the Solomon Islands.

One of Australia's most famous little creatures - the koala! It is an arboreal marsupial native to Australia.

The extremely illusive Lyrebird. We were lucky to see this one as it was mating season on top of the fact that they're generally quite shy anyway!

Today's 'creature' is the Tawny Frogmouth. He obligingly sat and posed on his keeper's hand for me and after his photo shoot, scoffed down two small mice. Whole!

Port Campbell
